Sue Monaro has recently finished her public health role as Clinical Nurse Consultant in Vascular Surgery, with 34 years of experience in the acute setting caring for patients with vascular dysfunction. For the last 15 years, she also had a Clinical Governance role overseeing a district-wide program for wound prevention and management. She retains her honorary position as Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Sydney Nursing School to pursue her research interests and supervise higher research degree students. She is part of the leadership team for the Sydney Health Partners Clinical Academic Group, focusing on the Perioperative Care of the older person, and is a member of the Peripheral Artery Disease Group of the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance.
Her research interests include chronic limb-threatening ischaemia, care of older patients, cardiovascular palliative care, complex wounds, and pressure injuries. Sue's PhD explored the patient and family experience of major amputation. Sue is involved in nursing organisations that support speciality practice and networking and is the president of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Nursing. An author and reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals, including an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Vascular Nursing.
