Suzanne Beels earned her Associate and Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing Education degrees from Jefferson College of Health Sciences (now Radford University) in Roanoke, Virginia. She earned a post-graduate Master of Science in advanced practice nursing for Clinical Nurse Specialist from Old Dominion University. She has 34 years of healthcare experience at Carilion Clinic.
She is a highly skilled and compassionate Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist with extensive experience in vascular surgery and renal services. With a passion for evidence-based patient care, staff development, and quality improvement, she plays a critical role in advancing healthcare standards and optimizing patient outcomes.
Aside from being an advanced practice provider, Suzanne has held progressive leadership roles, including Unit Director of a critical care unit, where she supported teams to achieve national recognition such as Magnet designation- 5 consecutive times, the AACN Gold Beacon Award and consecutive VQI 3-star awards. Her expertise spans direct patient care, protocol development, infection control, and clinical decision-making, making her a valuable resource for both patients and medical professionals.
Suzanne holds multiple certifications and is deeply committed to education, mentorship, and research. Her work has been showcased at national nursing and vascular conferences, where she has contributed to advancements in medication communication, nursing training methods, post-vascular surgery care, and workplace wellness initiatives.
Beyond her hospital work, Suzanne serves as Executive Board Secretary for the Bernard Healthcare-Franklin County Free Clinic, demonstrating her dedication to community service and healthcare accessibility.
