Dr. Lauren West-Livingston wis currently a 3rd year Vascular Surgery Integrated Resident at Duke University, and is in the first year of her research development years. She obtained her BA in Spanish Studies from Duke University, and went on to pursue an MS in Biochemistry at UNC Greensboro, and ultimately completed an MD/PhD at the Wake Forest School of Medicine and concurrent MSL in Health Law & Policy at the Wake Forest School of Law. Her doctoral dissertation focused on vascular tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
She is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Truskey Lab, with a project focusing on vascular tissue engineering for patients with peripheral arterial disease and comorbidities. She is also is developing an investigation the impact of lower extremity amputations on Black patients in former slave and Confederate states. Outside of her research, she serves the Duke Department of Surgery as the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Scholar, and teaches as an Adjunct Instructor of Biological Sciences at Durham Technical Community College. She also serves as a Journal of Vascular Surgery Intern, and was recently appointed to the SVS Committee on Government Relations.
