Erica L. Mitchell MD EdM, DFSVS, MAMSE is Tenured Professor of Surgery and Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Department of Surgery Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs at the University of Tennessee Health and Sciences Center and practicing vascular surgeon at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center at Regional One Health, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Her early academic focus was surgical education, specifically surgeon competency as it relates to decision making, situational awareness, and crisis management. Her passion is now focused on management of adult and pediatric vascular trauma and her current research focuses on vascular trauma, pediatric vascular surgical conditions, complex limb salvage, and the impact of healthcare disparities on trauma and CTLI. She has held many leadership positions within the American Board of Surgery, American College of Surgeons, Association for Surgical Education, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Association for Program Directors in Vascular Surgery. To date, she has co-authored three vascular surgical text books and 150+ peer-reviewed articles, and given 200+ podium presentations.
Hobbies include travelling, cooking, and painting. She enjoys her home in Memphis with her husband Jon, a world-renowned fly-fisherman, and their stubborn Norwich terriers.
