Dr. Yazan Duwayri is Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Emory University and Emory Healthcare in Atlanta. He holds the prestigious John E. Skandalakis Chair in Surgery and serves as Co-Director of the Emory Aortic Center.
As a physician executive, Dr. Duwayri leads a team of 24 academic vascular surgeons across seven hospitals. His focus includes improving surgical outcomes, optimizing care delivery, developing signature programs, fostering endovascular innovation, and advancing research and education for future vascular surgeons.
Dr. Duwayri has served on executive and advisory boards for non-profit organizations, medical device companies, and international vascular surgery societies. He has authored over 60 research articles in refereed journals and 11 book chapters.
Within the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), Dr. Duwayri is a member of the SVS Executive Board, and has contributed through various committees and councils, including the Quality Council, Advocacy Council, Political Action Committee, Government Relations Committee, and Annual Program Committee.
Dr. Duwayri earned his MD from the University of Jordan School of Medicine, completed his general surgery residency at the University of Toledo, and his vascular surgery fellowship at Washington University in Saint Louis. He also holds an MBA from Emory's Goizueta Business School.
Maintaining a thriving clinical practice, Dr. Duwayri advocates for vascular surgeons in all practice settings, including ambulatory centers, community hospitals, and large academic organizations. Within the SVS, he champions enhanced patient access to vascular care through physician-led delivery model innovation and healthcare payment reform.
